DIY vs Pro Pool Service: What's Right for Your Perth Pool?
Plenty of Perth pool owners run their own maintenance, and for some that's the right call. But "I can do it myself" and "I should do it myself" aren't the same question. Here's an honest look at where the line sits.
What DIY pool care actually involves
A well-kept pool needs regular skimming and emptying baskets, brushing and vacuuming, water testing and chemical balancing, filter cleaning or backwashing, and an eye on the pump, chlorinator and timer. None of it is hard individually. The catch is consistency — pools punish the weeks you skip.
Where DIY makes sense
- You're home most weeks (no long absences where the pool drifts out of balance).
- You're comfortable testing water and dosing chemicals accurately.
- Your equipment is in good shape and you'd notice if something started to fail.
Where a pro pays for itself
- You travel or work long hours. The most expensive pool problem is the one that's been quietly developing for three weeks.
- You'd rather not store and handle pool chemicals.
- Something's not right and you can't diagnose it — cloudy water that won't clear, a pump that's noisy, chlorine that won't hold.
- You want the equipment to last. Catching a failing pump or chlorinator early is far cheaper than replacing it after it takes the rest of the pool down with it.
The middle ground
A lot of our clients do their own week-to-week skimming and run a monthly professional service on top — we recommend monthly as the baseline cadence, with fortnightly or weekly available if a pool needs closer attention. You stay hands-on; we catch the things that turn into expensive repairs.
There's no call-out fee, so getting a professional eye on your pool costs you nothing to start.
