Getting Your Pool Ready for Summer: A Perth Pool Owner's Spring Checklist

By Macca's Team · 31 August 2026
A clean, clear backyard swimming pool on a sunny spring day

Every spring it's the same rush: the first genuinely warm weekend arrives, everyone wants to swim, and half of Perth discovers their pool isn't ready. A bit of prep in early spring beats a frantic scramble in October.

1. Clear the deck

Skim off the leaves and debris that built up over winter, empty the skimmer and pump baskets, and give the surrounds a clean. Starting from a clean surface makes everything that follows easier.

2. Check your equipment before you need it

Run the pump and listen. Is it noisy, or struggling to prime? Check the filter pressure, inspect the chlorinator, and make sure the timer is set for longer summer run times. This is the step most owners skip — and a pump that died over winter is far better discovered in September than on the first 38°C Saturday when every pool tech in Perth is booked out.

3. Brush, vacuum, and run the filter

Brush the walls and floor, vacuum out anything settled on the bottom, and run the filter hard for a few days to clear the water. Backwash or clean the filter once it loads up.

4. Balance the water

Test and correct pH, alkalinity and sanitiser. Water that's sat over winter often drifts, and getting the balance right early protects both your equipment and your surfaces.

5. Book anything that needs a pro

If the equipment check turned up something — a noisy pump, a chlorinator that's not dosing, a heater you want serviced before the season — get it booked now, before the spring rush. We service pools across Perth's northern suburbs with no call-out fee.
